Intel announced a strategic agreement with Chinese chip designer Rockchip to expand the breadth and speed up development of its Intel Architecture and communications solutions into the global entry level Android tablet market.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will introduce Intel-branded mobile system single-chip (SoC) platforms; The four core platforms will include an Intel Atom processor, combined with Intel's 3G modem technology. Intel's new 4-core SoFIA 3G kit is expected in the first half of 2015, targeting the entry-level and premium tablet market.

Intel will take the opportunity to expand its SoFIA lineup in the integrated mobile SoC platform to both entry-level and premium Android mobile devices. The Intel SoFIA line was added to the Intel Mobile product blueprint late last year and includes Intel's first integrated application processor and communications platform.
